FeatureBoard licensing
Licensing changed on August 30, 2026.
Every license is now an annual term (free tiers renew at no charge), competitors are excluded entirely,
benchmarks need written consent, and the software comes off all machines when a license ends.

The tiers
- Personal & Public — free. Personal projects and public/open-source work, full product; anonymous usage counts, opt-out anytime. Granted in 12-month terms that renew automatically at no charge while you stay eligible — like every FeatureBoard license, it's a term license, not a perpetual one.
- Commercial Trial — free, 24 hours, once per organization. Full access; when it ends, write operations freeze but your data stays yours (boards are markdown on your disk). Don't bypass or tamper with enforcement.
- Commercial — US$9.99 per seat per month, or US$99.99 per seat per year (save 17%). Self-serve at featureboard.ai/buy (checkout by Polar, our merchant of record). The checkout receipt plus the in-product license document form your agreement. Your signed key is emailed automatically and activates offline with the
activate_licensetool.
Keys
- Keys are issued to your organization, for the seats and term in your agreement — don't share or publish them.
- Every license is an annual (or shorter) subscription — no perpetual keys are issued. Keys stop authorizing writes after expiry (one-day grace); renew to keep going. When a license ends without renewal, use stops and the software comes off your machines (and your customers', if you gave them access) — read-only data export stays available, since your boards are markdown on your own disk.
- Renewals and seat changes are handled by issuing a new key.
Who can't use FeatureBoard
- Competitors. No license of any kind — free, trial, or paid — is available to the Excluded Parties named in the product's LICENSE.md: Dassault Systèmes, Siemens, Autodesk, PTC (incl. Onshape), Ansys, Hexagon, Bentley Systems, Trimble, Atlassian, Asana, Linear, monday.com, Notion and ClickUp, their affiliates, any other competitor, and the employees and contractors of any of them — in any capacity, personal or commercial, for any reason.
- Competitive analysis. Whoever you are: no benchmarking or feature comparisons published without our prior written consent, and no using FeatureBoard or its source to build, train, or inform a competing product or AI model.
