# NativeCAD 0.17.2 "Berglund" — self-update, fixed for real installs

**166 tools, the same as 0.17.1.** This release fixes the self-update that 0.17.0 introduced, which did not work on a real Claude Desktop install (CADSB-100016).

* **Stuck checks.** A check answered from the cache used to lock every later check onto that cached answer, `update:"check"` and `update:"now"` included. Now every forced check goes to the network.
* **Wrong install type.** An `.mcpb` that Claude Desktop runs on the system Node used to call itself a source checkout, so it would only ever notify, never install. The install type now comes from the files around the running server.
* **Stale cache.** A cached manifest older than the running version is ignored.
* **Builds.** Build smoke tests no longer write a cache into the builder's own `~/.nativecad`.

**Install 0.17.2 by hand once.** 0.17.0 and 0.17.1 have both bugs, so they cannot install it themselves. From 0.17.2 on, new releases arrive by themselves: they are named on every response, `cad_configure {update:"now"}` installs one, `{autoUpdate:"auto"}` installs them by itself, and restarting Claude finishes the update.

* **bundle-smoke over stdio, on the shipped `.mcpb` and `.plugin`.** Checks: initialize 0.17.2; tools/list 166; staged git `83bc45ed`, tree `7595094431f1`, 598 files; kernel chain unlicensed; `cad_export_body` refused by name.
* **cadsb-100016 (17), ncupdate (53), ncupdate-server (12), config (24).**
* **The failing install, reproduced.** Setup: a 0.17.2 bundle in an unpacked-extension directory, run on the plain system `node` with no edition stamp, with a fresh cache naming 0.16.0. Result: it reported `edition: "mcpb"` and `self-install`, saw the signed newer release, and installed it with `update:"now"`.
